Fiction Guidelines:
Tales from the Moonlit Path will be publishing dark, eerie, speculative stories. Horror is not a necessary element, although fiction should contain some aspect of the weak, frail, changeable human condition.
Gore and explicit sex for the sake of visceral shock will not find a home here, though we are not opposed to it in general, if it belongs in the story.
We are interested in character-driven stories more so than plot-driven, and we prefer dark fiction that makes us think, makes us feel, wraps us in its well-spun dream.
Although we would love to publish fiction longer than 2,000 words, it is our experience that reading stories longer than that on a monitor can be tiresome and hard on the eyes. So please, fiction must be no longer than 2,000 words.
Please include
a short cover letter with your story, with your name, email address, word count
and bio if we choose to publish your work. We accept email submissions only
at submissions@moonlit-path.com.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT ATTACHMENTS. Please submit your story embedded within the email,
with this format in the subject line: Your last name: Fiction-Submission.
Payment for fiction will be provided to the featured author's story, only, which
is decided on by the editors. We offer the featured author $10-$15, dependent
on budgetary limits at the time.
Please keep in mind that we are open to stories from writers of all levels of experience, and are equally dedicated to providing a venue for these writers, as well as providing a home for high quality, dark fiction.
Due to an expanding number of submissions, we will only notify the authors of stories we choose for publication in upcoming issues. Please feel free to query us within 2 months (and no sooner) if you do not hear from us about your story. Simultaneous submissions are fine, just please let us know if the story is accepted elsewhere.
If the story has never been published on the internet, we'll get non-exclusive First Electronic (World Wide Web) Publishing Rights. Otherwise we get non-exclusive One-time Electronic (World Wide Web) Publishing Rights, which revert back to you as soon as it has been published. Copyright remains yours at all times. If you want us to remove a story from our archive, please write us at editor@moonlit-path.com to let us know.
Before submitting your work, we ask that you subscribe to our newsletter. The Moonlit Path newsletter will only be circulated to let subscribers know when a new issue has been published, thus, 4x yearly. We, of course, would never share your email information. To subscribe, please send a blank email to: subscribe@moonlit-path.com.
