Desire

by Daniel Dorociak

Out in the country, that’s where she hides.
Deep beneath the leaves and rich soils,
past the big purplish berries,
across the broken shale.
Can you smell the raspberry fragrance in the breeze.
Look beyond the broken barb wire fence,
see how perfect the ground appears,
not one blade of grass torn or bruised.
This is it.
Oh, the effort given proved frustrating,
easy tasks are so much more delightful.
Although the purity here is well rewarding.
Those berries, what do you think of them?
There is a story here, can you see it?
If you sit near them and watch it all becomes clear.
One seed is all it takes.
It grows and matures,
it produces sweet fruit and then it rests.
So simple in its ways.
As the fruit is devoured it is satisfying,
until it is gone, then what?
More, there must be more, but there is none.
