Get the Heat Scared Out of You

This summer, the heat is sweltering. Body temperatures are rising. People reek of sweat. We here at the Moonlit Path have compiled the top ten horror movies that will help keep you scared cold.
The Blair Witch Project: In October of 1994 three student filmmakers disappeared in the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland, while shooting a documentary...A year later their footage was found. Everyone knows the story, but taking place in Maryland in October, our favorite three campers are bundled up for the cold and every word is witness to their chilling fear.
John Carpenter’s The Thing: Scientists in the Antarctic are confronted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of the people that it kills. Antarctica? Nuff said. Unfortunately, in Antarctica, Man is the warmest place to hide.
Cold Creek Manor: A family relocates from the city to a dilapidated house in the country that was once a grand estate. As they begin to renovate the place, they discover their new home harbors secrets, conceals a horrific past, and may not be free of the former inhabitants completely. The film itself gives off a cold vibe. Plus, the word “Cold” is in the title.
The Shining: A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future. I still tremble when I see Jack Nicholson’s face break through that door… Brrrr!
The Exorcist: Something beyond comprehension is happening to a little girl on this street, in this house. A man has been called for as a last resort to try and save her. That man is The Exorcist. This landmark of horror movies gets a nod for anyone who enters Regan’s room is immediately taken over by the below 0 degree cold.
Underworld: Selene, a beautiful vampire warrior, is entrenched in a war between the vampire and werewolf races. Although she is aligned with the vampires, she falls in love with Michael, a werewolf who longs for the war to end. Now this one’s a little contradictory because everyone in this movie’s a hottie. But, it takes place mostly on cold nights, so it made the list.
Dreamcatcher: Friends on a camping trip discover that the town they're vacationing in, is being plagued in an unusual fashion by parasitic aliens from outer space. Like The Shining, Stephen King penned this story in the middle of winter and in Maine. A perfect cocktail for a cold scare.
Jack Frost: A serial killer dies, comes back as a snowman, and wreaks havoc. He’s chillin…he’s killin’. He’s a snowman that murders people. How cool is that?! (Pun intended).
Alien Vs Predator: During an archaeological expedition on Bouvetøya Island in the Antarctic ocean, a team of archaeologists and other scientists find themselves caught up in a battle between the two legends. Soon, the team realize that only one species can win. The mother Alien is revived from a frozen sleep and most of this movie takes place underground in Antarctica… If there’s anything we’ve learned from this list, it’s never go to the Antarctic!
And finally, the scariest movie of all to help keep you cool this Hellish summer:
March of the Penguins: Again Antarctica. And those little buggars creep me out.
Keep cool and enjoy the rest of your summer.
